Finding Electric Fireplace Bargains

Some items that we'd love to have at home always seem too expensive to be a realistic option. We could choose to buy them anyway and accept the higher cost involved, but it sometimes pays to shop around in the hope of finding a bargain.

This is certainly the case if you're looking to buy an electric fireplace. I first became interested in electric fires when I was looking at installing an open fire in my home. My property had been built relatively recently and hence didn't have a chimney.



It was soon clear that this would cause me significant problems - I was looking at a hefty bill for the building work that would be involved in making the house suitable to receive an open fire.

This was obviously not an attractive option. A friend suggested that an electric fire could be the solution to my problem. Such appliances could provide the heat that I was looking for, while also having a similar appearance to that provided by a real fire.

Best of all, he suggested, was the fact that flueless options could be installed without the need for a chimney. In essence, this would be a cheap solution to the problem but one that would still look good.

I was initially unsure. My previous experiences of electric fires suggested that they rarely looked good - they tended to be rather old fashioned and I was also concerned about the costs involved in purchasing one.

Once I started taking a closer look into this area, many of my fears started to lift. Not only had technology come on a lot since I had last taken a look at these appliances, but it was also clear that the major manufacturers had been busy producing new designs.

These new designs didn't simply mimic open fires - in many cases, I actually thought that they looked better. They seemed ideal for creating a modern and contemporary look in my living room. So did I immediately buy one?

I'm pleased to say that I didn't. The prices attached to the fireplaces that I saw in the showroom seemed extremely high, causing me to think again before making a purchase. I decided to see how prices compared online.

It soon became clear that many internet retailers were offering exactly the same electric fireplace suites at significantly reduced prices. In some cases, it was possible to save more than 40% when comparing the same models.

I decided to make a purchase online and got a real bargain - I now have a high quality fire at a fraction of the price that I might otherwise have paid.
